Bulldog 25K

Cheryl ran her first 25K race this weekend! We headed out to Malibu Creek State Park at 4am, to meet the Run with Soul team doing the 50K. I hope the sun rises before race start!

We found the rest of the team! I LOVE our team shirts!!!

The 50K-ers are gone... time to get suited up for the 25K!

Heading for the starting line:

I started the race with Cheryl as her pacer ;oD What a beautiful place to run! I ran 3 miles in with her (up until the base of Bulldog hill)

Then I ran back to the car, hung out for about and hour, and started on the trail backwards.. looking for Cheryl. There she is!!! The RWS shirt makes her easy to spot, haha!

I found her about 2 miles in. She offloaded her vest and water bottle on me and we set off for the finish line...

Congrats to Cheryl on her first 25K! 3:09!

A Good Day for a Run

Cheryl has been working hard training for her 50K race coming up in October. We have been running in some beautiful places. Today we ran from the top of Peak Park in Newport Beach to Crystal Cove in Laguna Beach. I'm still on my bike, but my foot is getting better. Thanks for the strap, Dad! It's really helping!

The weekend before she ran at Malibu State Park for 17 miles. Look at the size of Cheryl's Water Pack compared to everyone else's. I didn't go on that run (it was too rough for a bike) so she had to carry her own water... It was HEAVY!! But she said that she was the only one that didn't run out of water "oD

The weekend before that she ran 18 miles in Dove Canyon. I was along for that one. That's when we learned how much water is needed for these long runs. I was carrying 72 oz of water for the two of us and we ran out.

Well, that's it. I hope to be running again in a couple of weeks!

Long time, no post....

My SIL and Mom mentioned that I haven't posted in a while. Well, nothing much has been happening... I've been injured, I tried running through it. It's my plantar fascia, and it got worse. So my personal physical therapist, Cheryl, convinced me to stop running until it's better.

On one of my non-runnng weekends, we went SUP-ing in Dana Point Harbor. We had to carry the boards from the shop to the beach... those things are heavy! It's a good thing that Jim came with us. I admit that I fell in. It's hard to balance when I can't put my full weight on my foot (that's my story and I'm sticking to it!).

Jim and Jena were gone camping for a few days, and it's as if all the critters knew that Jena was gone! We got a visit from Hoover:

And from Sylvester:

Here are some more pics that I took of Cheryl running... since I can't run, I have lots of Cheryl running pictures. Here's Cheryl smokin' Steve. Haha! Yeah, Steve, we are letting this one go viral, lol!

Here's a pic of me... no running, but I'm out there on my bike. I didn't take this one, obviously. I guess it's really trendy and cool to take slanted pictures now. So, do I look cool?

One last picture:

So, that is all that's up at our house.

We have adventures in home decorating coming up SOON!!!

Puppy-Trot'in

The wind was howling and the rain was pouring last night, but this morning was bright and beautiful! We took the opportunity for a 5-mile run at Dana Point... Cheryl, Jena-girl and me! It was an easy 9:40 pace today. We gotta rest up! Marathon training starts again tomorrow.

On the job front... Cheryl started seeing patients this week and working on her own. She is LOVING her new job!
I hope you all have a great weekend!

Happy Easter!

Welcome Spring! Welcome Easter! It's the time to celebrate all things new... new goals, new outlook on life, and renewal of spirit...

Cheryl and I were out running Aliso South Wilderness Part yesterday, and the wildflowers were in full bloom!

We decided that we are joining a Christian running group called, "Running with Soul." Next week they start their marathon training for the Long Beach Marathon. I don't think we are running a marathon in October, but it should be fun to train with them. Everyone there is very very nice! The leaders of the group, Naomi and Steve, are Ultra runners. We should learn some great running tips from them. Something for Cheryl to store away for her Ultra someday...

Happy Esster everyone!

Racing for the Cure - Half Marathon

NOTE to Self: Races two weekends in a row is a bad idea. It's not that we did badly... Cheryl's goal was a little over optimistic, but we met my goal for the race. We finished in 2:05, that's a PR for Cheryl! AND we are both wiped out!

It was so nice to cross that finish line!

My Time: 2:05:33
Pace : 9:35
Age: 7/25
Overall: 178/459

Cheryl's Time: 2:05:51
Pace: 9:36
Age: 8/21
Overall: 180/459

Hot Chocolate 15K - Part II

I wanted to share the proofs from our race. I don't think we'll be buying any of these pictures:

Here are Cheryl's pictures:

Hot Chocolate 15K

Cheryl and I spent the weekend in San Diego. On Saturday, we went to the Hot Chocolate 15K package pickup and then explored the Gas Lamp Quarter of downtown San Diego.

We stopped at Cafe Sevilla for sangria and tapas on their outside patio.

We were back in our room on the 15th floor of the Omni before dark. Our room overlooked the Gas Lamp Quarter and we watch the lights turn on and the traffic get worse and worse.

The following morning, it was just a short walk to the Hot Chocolate 15K starting line:

There we found our corral.

With a few other people.

The finisher's prize was full of Chocolate-y goodness!

Time to say good-bye to San Diego.

By mile 2, Cheryl said, "This run is horrible!"... by at the end of the race, she said "I didn't like that one very much"... on the way home, she said, "That was FUN! Let's do another destination run!" Gotta love her short term memory... she went from HORRIBLE to FUN in less than three hours, hahaha!

My results:
Time: 1:27:17, pace 9:21
Place 50-54: 29/197
Place women: 474/2575

Cheryl's results:
Time: 1:27:37, pace 9:23
Place 20-24: 48/167
Place women: 488/2575

It's a PR for both of us, since neither of us has ever run a 15K before.

Have a great weekend!

Weekend Run

This weekend we went out Dove Canyon to Casper's Wilderness Park.

We started out a a beautifully groomed trail lined with pretty houses.

To Casper's wilderness park:

Where the trails are not so nice:

And the neighbors are not as friendly:

Thankfully, we didn't see any of those furry neighbors. It was a beautiful run, and we really enjoy running Dove Canyon.

Spring Forward

So what did you do with your extra hour of sunshine?

Cheryl and I went running at Aliso South, and I brought my new camera with me. First I want to share a picture of my GPS watch. I guess it's not really a watch because it doesn't tell time. It's more brick shaped and weighs about as much as a brink, so I guess I'll call it my GPS brick.

We were tired from Barre on Thursday, so Cheryl says, "I don't think I'll make it to the park, let's run to the Top of the World." Ooookay... I don't understand her reasoning, but off we go...

We took a different way this time... instead of going straight up, we took the switch backs. We are really high up from where we started!

We finally get to the top of the hill, look over to the other side, and what do we see?

Laguna Beach! It's hot today, and the water is looking awfully inviting"

Here's the trail down... should we go?

Nope... just thinking about the climb back up the hill is making us tired. So, we turn back towards Saddleback and head back to the car:

Oh, one more view on our way down... Look it's Soka!

Buddy is making himself right at home. He and Jena are getting to be GREAT buddies!

That's it for our weekend!
I hope you all have a great one!
